As parents of a child with a disability, you know how valuable that feeling of community is when you’re with others who just get you without you having to explain or apologize. Siblings of children with support needs are an often-overlooked group who need that same feeling of connection with other children who just get it. Sibshops is a place where siblings can build that community and get information about their siblings and themselves in a supportive, validating environment.

Sibshops with EEI offers the siblings of students with extra support needs a place to gather with other children with similar experiences. Sibshops were established by Don Meyer in 1982, and have since expanded from the University of Washington to reach kids all over the world. Each session involves discussion of the joys and challenges of being a sibling, an opportunity to learn about themselves and their siblings, and most importantly, a mix of high and low-energy fun activities to build connections and just be a kid for a little while. We will also occasionally have guest speakers to help participants learn more about their siblings' disabilities and support needs. Although "what happens at Sibshops stays at Sibshops," parents will be updated regularly on common themes that arise during discussions. Families will also have access to the Sibshops vault where they can access resources to support the siblings, help the sibling plan for the future, and connect with each other for support. Currently, our Sibshops are intended for children ages 8-13. Sibshops with EEI will be led by a Sibshops certified facilitator.
CURRENT GROUP IS OFFERED 1ST, 3RD, AND 5TH SATURDAY MORNINGS FROM 8:30-10:00 AM, CHECK GROUP PAGE FOR SESSION DETAILS.
