Smile Your Way to Success: The Power of Relaxation in Business

Are you working tirelessly, trying again and again, yet feeling like you're not making any headway? It’s easy to get caught in the trap of overexertion, but here’s a principle to consider: when it comes to mental work, effort can actually defeat itself.
A few years ago, I was walking along the Yarra River in Melbourne when I saw a rowing coach working with his student. The coach, an old boat swipe with the nickname "Painus Maximus," had a well-deserved reputation for his tough approach.
I struck up a conversation with him, eager to learn something new. He pointed to his student, who was rowing with a strained, tense expression on his face. The tension in the rower's body was palpable.
I suggested to the coach that if the rower simply relaxed his face and let go of that tension, his body would follow suit, allowing him to row more smoothly and efficiently. Painus Maximus agreed, instructing the rower to smile. And sure enough, when the rower did, his strokes became more fluid, and the effort felt easier.

The Business Parallel

This principle doesn’t just apply to rowing; it’s also true in business and life. When we allow ourselves to relax, we can find our flow and progress toward our goals with ease and grace. Pushing too hard can often lead to burnout, inefficiency, and frustration.

Why don't people get what they want?

Why is it that people who begin a course or a coaching program or a self-improvement program do not finish the program.

It’s not uncommon for only 10 to 20% of people who start on a self improvement or self development program achieve their desired outcome

Why is this?

I believe that the reason for this is that their mindset, their beliefs, their perceptions, their values are not in alignment with the outcome they wish to achieve

How can this be changed?

The way to change, the outcome is to become aligned within yourself, to have yourself image, your identity of yourself must be in alignment with the person you wish to be with the life you want to have 

When working on the change of your current self image, the two things that are important to remember
1. Imagination creates reality.
2. The feeling is the secret.

What I mean is that you must use your imagination to be able to see the ideal version of yourself, and to be able to step in to this of you. And after doing this get in touch with the feeling of what it feels like to be the ideal version of you.
